QUICK HITS

SO DON'T GET CARRIED AWAY - YET

There is an element of certainty in certain things...what we in Chicago now know about the murder of Mya Lyons is as much as we knew a few days ago. Mya was found by her father a little bit more than a week ago in an area that borders a set of train tracks. Almost immediately her father was guitly in the court of public opinion and on 26/7/2008 her father was nearly identified by the Chicago Police. I say nearly because they towed a van away and its unclear whos van it is but what is clear is that the fire is being stoked and her dad is the prime suspect. I have two words for you: JonBenet Ramsey. Her parents and brother were guilty in that same court of pulic opinion until 10/7/2008 when DNA evidence cleared them as the suspects in that childs murder. I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'...let the police do their job and lets hope that whoever killed that child gets caught soon.

YOU'VE GOT THE LOOK

So Barack Obama decided he wanted to take a trip overseas and check the vibe of the world. Well wtf do you think happened? The world loves this shit and they have already declared him as el presidente! Funny how shit works out huh? Obama goes to Paris and President Sarkozy sets him out! Big press conference with foreign and US journalists in attendance and Sarkozy all but endorsed him on the spot. McCain went to Paris too...no one cared. No big press conference, no croissants, no fries - nothing french for him at all. It is really getting close to the part of our program where we start laughing uncontrollably at the candidacy of John Wayne McCain and the bumbling antics of the Republican party. Congrats President Obama...almost.

LET'S PARTY LIKE IT'S 1977!!!

I am not a fan of 90% of Chicago Cub fans. The ten percent that I like get it. The baseball season does not end in June. It does not end when you are in first place after the All-Star break. Baseball season ends in September/October. The Cubs were in first place for a nice long time in 1977. I was ten and I remember it so, so well. They were in the lead for a good portion of the baseball season BUT they choked. Every Cub team has either choked or were never in it every year of my life (41). I expect nothing different now. I am saying it to the world first. IF THE CUBS LOSE THEIR FIRST PLACE SPOT - THEY WILL NOT GET IT BACK. Good luck to them though but I hope the 90% of Cub Fans I don't like can take it...without dinner and a movie too...damn.

Special thanks to the folks at Elastic Arts Foundation who allowed me to work on the blog in their spacious offices here in Chicago.

RUN JESSE RUN

What the fuck is going on with Jesse Jackson? Why now brother Jesse? Why put yourself out there like that? In case you didn't hear Rev. Jacksons comments, you can read them here. In my personal opinion, that was the worst thing I have ever heard an elder say. On that note - just because you are old doesn't make you smart or an elder. I know a 75 year old dummy trust me, gray don't make you wise.

This marks the third time a "Rev" has made a kooky statement that has Senator Obama involved in it and these are the ones that we hear about! Can you imagine the shit that is being said out of earshot? Here is something that requires me to say this with all due respect: SHUT THE FUCK UP! Media hungry and without malice you did NOTHING to help the situation. Generational Jealousy is what you are practicing. Jesse Jackson has been the invisible man on so many occasions and unbelievably, overexposed on others. Let's compare notes shall we?

The hiring of Jody Weis as Chicago Police Superintendent was a move that many considered harmful to the city and that has proved itself out in that the number of violent crimes has peaked in the short time since his hire. Jesse Jackson -Invisible.

Rev. Jackson made an appearance at the Stevie Wonder concert and remained offstage for a considerable amount of time. Knowing the relationship that Stevie and Jesse have this comes as no surprise but he had no problem sucking up that lovely Taste of Chicago limelight. Jesse Jackson- Overexposed.

Mumia Abu-Jamal has been in jail for way to long...Jesse Jackson - Invisible.

Mayor Daley and his band of merry men want to destroy Washington Park and the King Drive corridor to make their 2016 Olympic Dreams come true. This potential destruction would mean the displacement of thousands of Chicagoans - Chicagoans of color. Sort of a "black flight" from the city to the burbs. A very complex gentrification project. Jesse Jackson - Invisible.

Those are just a few examples - not mentioning the invisibility on the streets of Chicago where so much violence has taken place but he RAN to the aid of the Jena 6. Jesse Jackson - Overexposed.

Now he decides to make a comment about Senator Obama and to make it worse he "apologized" as soon as he found out about the comment being shown on the news. Why? Let that shit ride Jesse I mean you said it. That is how you felt and after all, the GJ (Generational Jealousy) makes you right in your own mind anyway. The apology in general is overplayed and making one is as stupid in some instances as the original statement.

People in Chicago know that you hate this. You can't stand Barack Obama getting all of the attention. You think it should have been YOU. You "Rev." have been suspect since the day Dr. King died on that damn balcony. You wanting to castrate Obama has nothing to do with him "talking down to black people" , it has everything to do with you being a jealous man...that sir is a sin. It is based on you not being "the one" and you making it hard to stick by you. That feeling may change and in the interest of public disclosure, Jesse Jr. and Jonathon Jackson are people that I know and you sir are a friend of members of my family who have been with you since the Operation Breadbasket days but this is where I hop off Rev. Jackson.

I am ashamed today of you Jesse Jackson. Ashamed.

THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH

This one comes from the heart and I am not kidding - at all...

The Light of the Highest power exists in the person of Stevie Wonder. It is visible and present. I saw it and it is overwhelming. I have never said anything like that about him prior to seeing him at the Waste - sorry, the Taste of Chicago the last Saturday in June, 2008.

But this is more than a post about the show (two hours and forty minutes and thirty songs) or how good his band is or the backup singers. This post is about how we can all learn something from someone who has the inane ability to remain a free spirit in this day and age.

Being a free spirit is what we were when we were children remember? Our responsibility when we were children was to remain within eyesight and earshot of our families. We were creative and full of energy and we were humble almost to a fault. We knew inherently LOVE. Never did we question what that was and on many occasions when we were children we had exclusive meet and greets with a higher being.

What makes people like Stevie great isn't so much the longevity of his music although that is important. In my opinion we need to walk closer to our true self in order to get that free spirit back. Listen I know about reality and this may end up being as corny as anything that you may ever read but I firmly believe that if we pursue something hard enough, we get it. If we seek knowledge we find it. If it's sex you want and you want it bad enough you find that. Money, look for it and BAM you can find it. It seems that nobody is looking for inner respect and THAT is what I got out of that concert. The inner respect that the man has for himself is incredibly, blatantly obvious.

In my opinion Stevie Wonder has it and in his attempt to be what Berry Gordy saw years ago, he has transcended everything we know about modern music and he is without question or peer the most important living musician on PLANET EARTH. For me however it's this very public walk with GOD that he is taking and his wisdom that he has shared with us for all these years. The look on peoples faces and watching the reaction of children when he played. How he has as many accomplishments outside of music as he does in it (Stevie was Bono waaaaay before Bono) and how he extends this happy feeling in such an ugly world. We owe it to ourselves to reintroduce ourselves to what he has been saying all this time. It might help, I mean really what can it hurt?

This is real talk...pass it on. Stevie Wonder is the Absolute Truth...
